Developing Tomorrow's Leaders Through Authentic Relationships

Developing Tomorrow's Leaders Through Authentic Relationships

Billy and Julie Levine's ties to Westminster span generations, with Billy's father as a student of Dr. William Pressly's at The McCallie School. They give back to help future Westminster students flourish through challenging academics and supportive relationships.

While some things have changed since Billy Levine '88 first came to Westminster in 1975, genuine relationships that make the experience unique continue to form on campus. Billy's connection started when his father, Jay, attended The McCallie School, where Dr. William Pressly was not only his favorite teacher, but a close friend to the family. When Jay moved to Atlanta with his wife, Elizabeth, it was their confidence in Dr. Pressly that led them to enroll Billy and his sisters at Westminster.

The value of that family relationship, along with the other connections Billy and Julie have developed over time, inspires the Levines to give annually and through a planned gift . "I have always felt that supporting the institutions that molded me is important. Including Westminster in our estate plans makes it possible to continue and perpetuate that gratitude for the institution," Billy says.

As parents to Jason '25, Mia '22 and Jessica '20, Billy and Julie have seen their children grow through nurturing relationships with their teachers and peers. Just as Dr. Pressly had been present at The Temple for Billy's confirmation, Westminster teachers and administrators have attended the bat mitzvah ceremonies for both of their daughters.

Each of their children has had strong and unique connections with their teachers. Julie recalls, "When Mia was in fourth grade, Diane Dalbo instilled in her a love of reading, which helped turn her into the avid reader she is today. A couple years later, Mia received a letter from Mrs. Dalbo 'just checking in'."

In addition to building community through relationships, the Levines have seen that Westminster's dedication to strong academics continues. "[The teachers] are willing to meet students where they need to be met. They consider the best way to teach students and how to prepare them. Doing that while maintaining academic excellence is remarkable," says Billy.

Giving to Westminster is how the Levines help keep the School on the leading edge. "It takes significant support to provide everything Westminster does for students on a regular basis," Billy says. "The School is willing to think outside the box and be flexible with current needs. Westminster could just stay the course, but it doesn't."
